Accounts Receivable & Credit Control Assistant

Location: Reading (Hybrid)

Company: Webexpenses

About Us

At Webexpenses, we’re on a mission to simplify expense management for businesses of all sizes. Our award-winning SaaS platform helps organisations gain control, visibility and efficiency across their spend processes. We’ve now joined forces with Zudello, so Webexpenses powered by Zudello brings expenses together with accounts payable, accounts receivable and more in one finance suite. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for an Accounts Receivable & Credit Control Assistant to join our Finance team.

The Role

You’ll own the sales ledger day to day, from billing through to cash in the bank. About 90% of your time goes on billing, cash allocation and credit control. The other 10% is covering accounts payable.

You’ll work alongside our Accounts Payable Assistant and cover each other’s ledgers, and you’ll partner with Sales, Customer Success and Support on customer accounts. You’ll also help fix billing issues at the source, so the same problems don’t keep coming back.

This is a full-time role (35 hours per week), reporting to the Group Finance Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts receivable

  • Raise monthly and annual subscription invoices and credit notes
  • Check customer and billing data in Salesforce before invoices are issued
  • Allocate customer receipts daily across BACS, Direct Debit and card payments
  • Run credit control: chase overdue accounts by phone and email, agree payment plans and escalate where needed
  • Maintain customer billing records in the finance and CRM systems
  • Resolve billing queries, working with Support, Sales and Customer Success
  • Produce the aged debtors report with commentary
  • Support output VAT checks for UK and overseas customers

Billing data quality

  • Log the causes of billing errors and finance cases
  • Report recurring issues to Sales and Customer Success and help agree fixes
  • Track whether the number of finance cases is falling over time

Month-end support

  • Close the sales ledger in line with the month-end timetable
  • Provide billing data for the revenue and deferred income schedules
  • Prepare the accounts receivable control account reconciliation for review
  • Provide expected receipts for the weekly cash flow forecast

Accounts payable cover

  • Process supplier invoices and expense claims during absences

Growth and projects

  • Help improve billing and collections processes, including automated reminders
  • Learn the basics of revenue recognition for subscription income
  • Build experience towards the Assistant Management Accountant role as you progress through your studies

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • 1–2+ years in an accounts receivable, billing or credit control role
  • Confident on the phone, able to have firm but friendly payment conversations
  • A basic understanding of double entry and reconciliations
  • Competent Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables)
  • Strong attention to detail, and a habit of finding the cause of a problem, not just fixing it
  • Accurate, organised and able to manage competing deadlines

Nice to have

  • AAT qualified, or part-qualified ACCA / CIMA (we offer study support)
  • Subscription billing or SaaS experience
  • Experience with Salesforce and a cloud accounting system

What We Offer

  • Study support towards your AAT, ACCA or CIMA qualification
  • Clear career progression, with a path towards the Assistant Management Accountant role
  • Flexible working: hybrid, based in Reading
  • A supportive, collaborative team culture
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Generous holiday and benefits package
